Acetic acid solution (typically 0.6%) is the second standard reconstitution solvent in peptide research after bacteriostatic water. The mildly acidic environment improves solubility and stability for certain peptides - IGF-1 variants are the classic example, as their structure makes them prone to aggregation and degradation in neutral water.
The choice between bacteriostatic water and acetic acid solution is compound-specific. Most common research peptides (BPC-157, TB-500, ipamorelin, the GLP-1 class) reconstitute cleanly in BAC water. Compounds with known solubility or stability issues - IGF-1 LR3 being the most prominent - call for acetic acid. Reputable suppliers specify the recommended solvent per product.
One practical note: acetic acid solution lacks the benzyl alcohol preservative found in BAC water, so multi-use vials reconstituted with it require more careful handling and shorter use windows. Some researchers use a hybrid approach - initial dissolution in a small volume of acetic acid solution, then dilution with BAC water - documented in research literature for specific compounds.
